Sycamore Lane Therapy: Enriching the Lives of People with Disabilities

Dr. Suzanne Cleland-Zamudio, an otolaryngologist at Portland Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, provides quality ear, nose, and throat care to children and adults. In addition to her work as a physician, Suzanne Cleland-Zamudio is also the founder of Sycamore Lane Therapeutic Riding Center.

Since its founding in 2008, Sycamore Lane Therapeutic Riding Center has been committed to providing safe, therapeutic riding experiences to adults and children in the Portland area. The Center strives to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enrich their lives through horseback riding. Through therapeutic riding and hippotherapy, the Center provides individuals with effective therapy to help them improve balance, strength, and spatial awareness.

Hippotherapy services at Sycamore Lane Therapeutic Riding Center involve a speech, physical, or occupational therapist leading a session with a client on horseback. Both the therapists and the horses are chosen to meet the specific needs of each client. Clients ride in a variety of positions and with various adaptations while participating in therapeutic games and activities. Typically, therapeutic riding sessions help individuals who have mild to moderate disabilities, while hippotherapy can be used for any disability level.
